Tooele County sits directly west of Salt Lake County, on the other side of the Oquirrh Mountains. The towns the team serves are in the Tooele Valley, between the Oquirrhs on the east and the Stansbury Mountains on the west. This guide covers the towns, the routes east, the outdoors, and the offices to contact once you arrive. It does not rank the towns; which one fits depends on what you want, and we are glad to talk it through.
Grantsville sits on the west side of the Tooele Valley, below the Stansbury Mountains. It is one of the older towns in the county, with a historic core along the main street and newer subdivisions spreading toward the foothills.
Stansbury Park is a planned community in the north end of the Tooele Valley, built around a man-made lake and a golf course. It sits close to the Interstate 80 corridor at the entrance to the valley.
Tooele is the county seat and the largest city in the valley, set at the base of the Oquirrh Mountains. It has a long main street, established neighborhoods, and newer development on its outskirts.
Erda is a community between Tooele and the north end of the valley, known for open ground and mountain views on both sides of the valley.
Lake Point sits at the north end of the Tooele Valley near the Great Salt Lake, at the junction where the valley meets the Interstate 80 corridor.
Stockton is a small town south of the city of Tooele, set between the Oquirrh and Stansbury ranges near Rush Valley. It has a historic mining heritage and a quiet main street.
Commute times vary with the season and the hour, so drive the route yourself at the time you would actually travel.
Interstate 80
The main route east into Salt Lake County. It runs along the north end of the Tooele Valley, where the valley meets the Great Salt Lake.
State Route 36
The valley's north-south spine. It leaves Interstate 80 at Lake Point and runs south through Stansbury Park, Erda, and Tooele to Stockton and on into Rush Valley.
State Route 138
Connects Grantsville east to State Route 36 and Interstate 80.
Midvalley Highway
A 4.5-mile road from State Route 138 to Interstate 80, opened by the Utah Department of Transportation in 2021 as a second link between the west side of the valley and the interstate.
Transit
Utah Transit Authority runs bus service between Tooele County and Salt Lake County. UTA On Demand covers rides within Tooele County; UTA lists 435-843-4114 for those rides.

Stansbury Lake
A man-made lake in Stansbury Park, first built in the early 1970s and covering about 110 acres. The Stansbury Service Agency publishes its rules. stansburypark.gov
